More information on how the lists operate.

Privacy
The mail lists and software managing them are on a computer owned by a member of Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, the information in them will not be provided to any other organisation. Additionally the lists will be monitored to ensure that any information provided in them is relevant for the purpose of that list.

Unsubscribing

This can be controlled by a web page by people who have subscribed. Simply go the the links provided above and enter your email address and password and you can control a number of options, and remove the email address from the list if wanted. If the password is not know, there is a section at the bottom of the page where an email address can be entered and the password will be emailed to the address specified.

Spam
There are a number of  checks done to ensure this system does not send out unwanted mails.
Firstly only email addresses on the list can send mails to the list.
Secondly, an anti-spam program checks every message to see if it appears as spam and then holds it for moderation. This may happen if a spammer is forging an allowed address.

Viruses

All emails are passed through and anti-virus program and if any virus or other scam (e.g. phishing) is detected the mails are discarded.

Technical Details

Anti spam is provided by Spamassassin
Anti-virus is provided by Clam anti-virus
